Christopher Nolan led off Universal’s CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday with an assembly of footage from his upcoming summer epic Oppenheimer.

The dramatic sequences in colour and black & white showed Cillian Murphy in the lead role as the genius scientist and so-called “father of the atom bomb”, reminding high-level US figures that the United States was in a race with the Nazis – and not the Soviets so much – during the Second World War to develop a bomb to end the war.

The cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Gary Oldman, Florence Pugh, and Rami Malek.

Speaking on stage at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Nolan said, “I know of no more dramatic tale with higher stakes, with more extraordinary twists and turns, with more paradoxes and ethical dilemmas.”
