The city of Limerick in Ireland has been chosen to host the Association of Film Commissioners International’s (AFCI) Cineposium Conference from September 26 to 28 this year.

After a competitive bidding process open to all AFCI commission members, Film in Limerick won the right to host the first Cineposium in Ireland in the event’s 46-year history.

Cineposium is an event that connects AFCI members with film industry professionals and policy makers around the world. It was established in 2010 and has been held in the US and other countries.

More information about Cineposium’s 2023 sessions and speakers, as well as registration, will be announced soon.

The successful bid of Limerick was announced in Los Angeles by Catherine Martin, Ireland Tourism and Culture Minister, and Fis Eireann/Screen Ireland. This mission was to promote the Irish screen industry. The mission coincides with an Oscar ceremony at which Ireland will be well represented, most notably by best picture and acting awards contender The Banshees of Inisherin, international feature nominee The Quiet Girl and lead actor nominee Paul Mescal.

Martin stated that hosting Cineposium was “a great opportunity to build upon the current wave of success in Ireland’s screen sector, and to further strengthen partnerships with international production companies. It’s a great way to promote Ireland as a global production center, and to further develop skills for Irish talent and our skilled crew.

AFCI executive Director Jaclyn Phillipt said: “I’m excited that Ireland has been chosen to host Cineposium. Here a diverse mix will come together to learn, make connections, and explore new ways of collaboration. Screen Ireland joined AFCI June 2018. Their office has been a valued member of AFCI since June 2018. They have demonstrated leadership in sustainability, workforce development programs, and production support for filmmakers and content creators filming here.
