‘Fast X” races to $68.7m in first two days on international markets

‘Fast X’

Fast X has clocked up $68.7m from 65 markets over its first two days on international release and $7.5m from Thursday (May 18) previews in North America.

The latest entry in Universal Pictures’ hugely successful action franchise opens this weekend in 84 international markets and at more than 4,000 locations in North America, where it appears to be on course for a $65m weekend gross. The franchise’s previous installment

F9 The Fast Saga opened with $70m North America two years ago. It went on to gross $173m domestically and $553.2m internationally. The franchise’s highest-performing film is Furious 7, which opened with $147.2m in North America and went on to gross $353m domestically and $1.16bn internationally.

The latest installment of the franchise has scored best in China. It opened across 50,000 screens and 11,000 locations on this weekend, and has already taken over $26.3m within two days. In Mexico, the two-day total for the film is $4.2m. This is the second highest opening day in the history of the movie, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie

FastX reached $4m in two days, 22% more than F9

, excluding previews. In Germany, the two-day total is $3.2m after a Thursday debut that was 64% of F9. Louis Leterrier directed the first part of the two-part franchise finale, Fast, after Justin Lin stepped down as director of F9 (he remains credited as a writer and producer). The new entry features returning cast members Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez as well as Tyrese, Gibson, Nathalie, Emmanuel, Jordana, Brewster, Sung Kang and John Cena. Also, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and Scott Eastwood are all featured. Jason Momoa and Brie Larson are among the new cast members. Alan Richtson, Daniela Melchior, and Brie Larson are also on board.
