Mubi has acquired Rodrigo Moreno’s Cannes Un Certain Regard entry The Delinquents in an all-rights deal for North America, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, Turkey, Italy, India and Benelux.
The global distributor and streaming service will release the Spanish-language comedy-drama theatrically in North America, the UK and other territories, with release plans and exclusive streaming dates expected to be announced soon. Magnolia International represents the worldwide rights to this film.
The Delinquents stars Argentinian actors Daniel Elias Esteban Bigliardi Margarita Mofino. It is a story about a Buenos Aires employee of a bank who devises a risky scheme to free himself and a co-worker. Laura Paredes is also in the cast, as are Mariana Chaud and Cecilia Rainero. Ezequiel Borovinsky, of Argentina’s Wanka Cine, is the producer. Les Films Fauves from Luxembourg, Brazil’s Sancho&Punta and Chile’s Jirafa Films, as well as Jaque and Rizoma both from Argentina are co-producing.
Moreno has been nominated for two Berlin Golden Bears –
The Custodian andA Mysterious World – and won awards at festivals such as San Sebastian, Sundance and Berlin.
