'Ya & Niki'
Italian director Ra di Martino's Ya & Niki won the top prize of the 16th edition of FIDLab, the international co-production platform of France's FIDMarseille. Produced by Italy's Dugong Films and Lebanon's Abbout production,
Ya & Niki is about an Italian teen that forms a bond with a Syrian Refugee in a computer game. It received the EUR15,000 A Fabrica Award for sound post-production. Katsuya Tomita's The Laanfang Republic
also won the Commune image award for eight weeks of editing. The Japanese director's latest project follows two friends - one a mafiosa and the other a pop star whose lives are shattered by dramatic events. The jury consisted of Madeline Robert (consultant and head of Visions Sud Est Fund), Dennis Ruh (former director of the European Film Market) and Romanian producer Ada Solomon. This year, 410 submissions were received. FIDLab 2024 winnersA Fabrica
