‘Scrapper’

Kino Lorber has taken North American rights to Charlotte Regan’s diretorial debut Scrapper, one of a number of new sales confirmed on the Sundance World Cinema grand jury prize-winner that will open Sundance London this summer.

Sales agent Charades has also closed a raft of new deals on the father-daughter story, selling to Italy (Lucky Red), Scandinavia (Angel Films), Japan (King Records), South Korea (Green Narae), Adriatics (Megacom), Israel (Lev Cinema), Turkey (Mars), Taiwan (Filmware) and India (Pictureworks). Aardwolf has taken airlines rights.

Scrapper stars Harris Dickinson alongside newcomer Lola Campbell in the story of a 12-year-old girl who lives under the radar following the death of her mother until her estranged father appears and tries to reconnect.

It is the directorial debut of UK director Regan, a Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2020. It is produced by Theo Barroclough, DMC Film, and supported by the BFI and BBC Film. It was made possible by Creative England and the iFeatures program. Farhana Bhula and Eva Yates are the executive producers. Conor McCaughan, Conor McCaughan. Daniel Emmerson. Jim Reeve are the co-producers.

Kino Lorber President and CEO Richard Lorber described this film as “a funny and quirky father-daughter tale with such a warm heart that melted the snow at Sundance”; he also praised Campbell’s “star-making performance”. He added, “The witty banter, loveable characters, and stylistic flourishes announce [Regan] as a filmmaker to watch.”

The distributor plans a theatrical, digital and home entertainment release this year after SVP Wendy Lidell negotiated the deal with Anonymous Content and Charades on behalf of the filmmakers.

Previously announced deals closed in the UK (Picturehouse), Australia (Madman), Spain (Caramel), Poland (Against Gravity), Baltics and CIS (Arthouse), and Greece (Cinobo).
