Expanding its hit John Wick franchise, Lionsgate is developing a project in which Donnie Yen to reprise his role from John Wick: Chapter 4, the company’s spring 2023 global hit starring Keanu Reeves. The new film will begin production in Hong Kong, next year. It will continue the story arc for Caine, Yen’s character, from the fourth
Johnwick installment which grossed over $440m worldwide. The project is being developed as part of Lionsgate’s agreement with Chad Stahelski to oversee the expansion and growth of the franchise. Stahelski was the co-director of Johnwick
and director of three of its follow-ups. The screenplay is written by Robert Askins. The director has yet to be named. Franchise Producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Thunder Road of Thunder Road will work with Stahelski to produce under his 87Eleven entertainment banner. Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair, said: “From the first moment Donnie Yien appeared onscreen in John Wick: Chapter 4
he captivated and created an emotional connection which left an indelible impression and had fans asking for a sequel.” The
John Wick world that Chad, Basil Erica and Keanu have created is a tapestry filled with fascinating characters, brought to life by some of the most extraordinary actors. We’re excited to welcome one of the biggest stars in the world to continue this journey. These films are so popular because Chad, Basil, and Erica, like me, strive to create action, stunts, and fights that are not just thrilling, inventive, and artistic, but also express character, story, and emotion. Caine has a haunted history, and I’m excited to reprise the role.
