Downton Abbey A New Era

Focus Features and the UK’s Carnival Films have announced the start of production on a third Downton Abbey feature, with Paul Giamatti among new cast members and Simon Curtis once again directing.

Giamatti will reprise his role in an episode from the fourth season of Downton Abbey television series. He was recently nominated for an Oscar for The holdovers. Joely Richardson and Alessandro Nivola will also be joining the cast of the new film, as well as Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, and Simon Russell Beale. Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern are among the returning cast members. Laura Carmichael Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Michelle Dockery and Jim Carter will also be back.

Like both the first and second feature spin-offs, the third film, currently referred to as Downton Abbey, 3, is written by the series creator Julian Fellowes, and produced by Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.

A new Era was $92.7m, with $44.1m coming from the US and Canada. The first feature spinoff, Downton Abby directed by Michael Engler in 2019, took $194.7m worldwide including $96.9m in the US and Canada.
